Yesterday in the airport, i was fooling around on my t60p, finding out what all the things fn + f# does. While playing around with my power schemes, There were about 5 or 6 schemes, andi set it onto optimize battery length. After I set it, i tried to put it back to normal, but when i pushed fn f3, i only have power source optimized, timers off, and power off display. The most noticeable change was that the brightness went a lot lower. If i manually turn up the brightness, and push fn f3 again, it'll automatically lower the brightness again. If i try to create my own settings, it doesn't save them. what did i do?? and how can i fix it?!?!

If you haven't already, I would reboot first. I find that tends to solve a myriad of weird problems.

Otherwise, try Control Panel, Performance and maintenance, Power Manager, Launch power manager, and see what's there. Add new ones if necessary.

You can also change Fn+F3 settings from that screen.

Try what Barbara said first. If it still doesn't work, it could be a deeper problem.

This can happen if one or more of the registry entries for the Power Manager, which share the same area as the Windows power management system, get corrupted or duplicated. You can try uninstalling the Power Manager, doing a registry scan & cleanup, then reinstalling the Power Manager. If that doesn't work, you will have to remove the extra entries and/or modify them by hand.

ok, i tried rebooting, that didn't help (too bad :P ) when i launch power manager, my only options are blank, power source optimized, and timers off (presentation). after making a new one and clicking finish, the setup i just made doesn't appear, and can't be applied. I'll try chris' suggestion, but i dont know how to do a registry scan & cleanup. If you tell me how to do that, i'll try it and tell you what happens.

You might want to try Windows System Restore first. Go to Start > Help and Support > Pick a task > Undo changes to your computer with System Restore. Choose a restore point from before you had this problem.

ok, i tried a system restore. it made no changes to my computer (it said) even though i restored it to a period before this started happening. back to the uninstall/install registry search... how would i do that?

Ok I have this problem too. I tried Scratch's instructions in his post... remove the extra registry keys. That works in showing the scheme's in Power Manager but I can't switch schemes in power manager! I can create a scheme in PM and then switch to it through the XP manager. But i'm not sure if it's applying the new profiles as the screen brightness doesn't change whenever I change a scheme that has different brightness. I checked and the CPU speed does seem to change....

This is really annoying. This happened after I updated to PM 1.13c. Does anyone else have this problem?

Can anyone shed some insight into this problem? Should I copy registry settings from my friends T60?

it feels like my thinkpad is tainted now that Power Management schemes are crippled and it can't be fixed..

Thanks guys. I fixed it by loading my friend's T60's reg export. After creating profiles in PM, I still couldn't switch to them. In the registry, I found that they numbered my created profiles as 290 or 190 or something. All I had to do was rename it to 10 then 11 and so on and was able to toggle between my created profiles in PM.
