Intel 3945ABG issue

#1 Post by AuroraGuy » Sun Oct 08, 2006 8:08 am

Well I have had my T60 since March/April of 2006. Never ever had any issues with wifi at all. I use an Apple Airport extreme for my AP and have had really good luck - until last Monday.

All of a sudden, I will start to loose connectivity. The AP is fine as my other wifi devices stay attached. I tried using a different channel and that made no difference.

Then I noticed I was unable to disable and then re-enable the wifi card via Network connections. That seemed odd. So I called Lenovo and requested a replacement. They agreed...but its back ordered (no surprise) and no current ETA.

Is this symptomatic of this card? - I see alot of others complain about it ...but I was good until many months.

What is the fix for this - presuming a new card might not fix my issues? - Bad design?

Has anyone any recommendations?

Lastly, if I were to scrap this internal thing and go with a PCMCIA card, whats recommended (Costs aside)?

I need WPA2 with AES for sure.

Thanks Guys,

JD

There is the possibility you have Winsock corruption. Read article by Bill Machrone, columnist for PC Magazine:

Here are a couple of links, maybe they will help.

Troubleshoot TCP/IP Connectivity

Using the Network Diagnostics Tool

Of course you may be having a hardware problem. It is also possible that interference is causing the problem.

both my T60p and X60s came with the intel wifi card..
piss poor range compared to my T43p with the atheros wifi card..

so, first thing i did was find a couple of the appropriate wifi cards from an ebay seller paid about $90 for both..

range went to 100%..

you might check that out..

meanwhile, anyone want a couple of the original intel wifi cards..?

You can call them back and request the other type of wifi card, the Thinkpad a/b/g version with the Atheros chip, to replace your 3945abg.

I called them up as well when my 3945abg was flaking out and asked for the Thinkpad a/b/g card and the replacement, which I received within less than 24 hours, is very robust so far.

I don't think anyone will take you up on that :( , my experience has been bad as well, you can trouble shoot till you're blue in the face or red in the face and nothing really helps. I have noticed a ever so slight increase in time since the latest bios and software updates. It still is not quite right. I have replaced the card with a new one from Lenovo and the result is the same. Tech support guy recommended a buffaloe pcmcia card.

I did this and they told me I could not get the atheros due to the fact that my machine shipped with the Intel  And I was still in the 30 day window of purchase at that time. They did say I could send it in, I chose not to since there was a lot of others having the same issues so I figured it was a problem they will eventually work out. They also said to check the antenna connections as well.
