T60 docking station-external display resolution issue

I have a user with a new T60 with the ATI x1300. He uses a docking station and an external IBM Thinkvision 19" LCD screen. The laptop display runs at 1400x1050 and the external runs at 1280x1024. Whenever he connects the laptop to the docking station, the native resolution changes to the external display's default of 1280x1024, however when he undocks the resolution for the laptop does not return to its native resolution of 1400x1050 and instead remains at the external displays default. This of course causes the laptop display to to be scrunched up with a black border around the edges. The only way to remedy the issue is to manually change the display back to 1400x1050 or reboot the laptop. I've tried screwing around with the display settings and reinstalling the drivers for both the video card and the external display but nothing seems to help. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

46 views and not a single reply. I did manage to figure it out. There's an option in the built in IBM tools software to adjust this setting. Go to the LCD option and ensure that Expand is selected.
