Good news for whoever wants to upgrade to core 2 duo.
According to thinkpad.cn, a China-based thinkpad forum, the latest Merom chip (T7400) has been tested to run without problem on a thinkpad T60P using an unreleased version of BIOS.

How so? This suggest to me that it will not run on the current BIOS, and how really likely is IBM to update this unreleased BIOS to English and release it? Sure it may happen, but my guess is I'll never see this BIOS on my T60p.

AFAIK they used the 2.00b(eta) BIOS, which can be found here:

This is also for the Napa Merom as well. It might take a few more changes to make it work with the Santa Rosa release though...which would *really*be good.

This is great news! Did anyone snag that file while it was still up? (that link doesn't work for me)
I had been waiting to see what pans out with the new t60's, but I'm going to snag an a t60p w/ ips while I still can- (resellers have them..)

That link seems to be bad, you might try this one;

the 2.00b bios is the Vista bios, which you can find a link to in a sticky in the "Vista OS" forum. I know this because I have it installed right now

XP runs fine with it, too.
