New 2623 DAU Not sure if happy

Hi all,
Ok I like a deal, I purchased the 2623 DAU on Ebay for a few dollars over $900. The best i can tell this is a very good price. The unit is brand new (not refurb) in sealed box.
I chose a Thinkpad for my 1st laptop as my son has a T42 with all the goodies and very high resolution 15" screen. Its a GREAT laptop, but cost him over $2K when he bought it. His friends all bring over their laptops and none seemed as portable or as solid as his. So I needed a laptop for work, mainly word processing, email, some minor web site construction, PIM, and spreadsheet stuff. Not a game machine. I thought I could accept the low res of 1024x768, but not sure if I can. I have used a 17" and 19" monitor at 1280 or higher for the last 6+ years, so this takes some adjustment.
Problems with the 2623DAU.
The LCD screen has a glowing bright light at the bottom, and unless the screen is tilted at the exact right angle doesn't appear very vivid and appears sort of washed out, at bottom of screen. When I load MS Office or other software the display looks fairly even but is not as bright or vivid as my desktop. In fact it is annoying as I know how these programs are suppose to look.
Is this normal for the T60 with 1024 screen?
Other than the screen issues, everything else operates perfect, keyboard is a fantastic.
Should I consider returning this to Lenovo for warranty replacement? What is the normal turn around time?
Also I am considering putting this laptop back on Ebay I won't lose much and pay a few hundred extra for a higher res model.
At home I'm now in the living room with my wife, she watches tv, I have a board with the T60 across the arms of my recliner. My wife is happy, I'm not in the computer room working/surfin the net or playing online poker, now I'm next to her doing same.
