Hmm, very few changes from 1.10, although the first one is a doozy. Here's a copy of the changelog found at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-64462

Version 79ETC1WW (2.01)

* (Fix) Some versions of the EMM386 mistakenly write a hard drive's MBR aera. It will not boot up after this. (FDISK /MBR may recover it)
* (Fix) Icons on the desktop will be rearranged by a LCD cover close/open action.
1. This problem occurs only on models with a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. Machine type is 19xx.
2. Upgrade the display driver to version 6.14.10.4693 or later to fix this problem.

aera?

Looks like IBM made a typo! :P

Just teasing.

Anyway, I do believe that there has been more updates than just this. It prolly has been a complete rewrite of code for the upcoming Vista and how it communicates between the OS and the device(s).

2.00b was the beta Vista BIOS before this. I am willing to bet this is an update from that build.

Why would Vista require a different BIOS?

rasta, did you use the software installer or system updater? I hooked up today via software installer and it did not install the bios file.

I downloaded the file directly from the web page. Run the image and it unpacks it to the target directory. Then SOFTWARE INSTALLER will show it as an available update.

Neither Software Installer nor System Update have found most of the updates posted in the last few months. This could be because these updates are flagged as redundant or not applicable (e.g., the configuraiton program supporting new and different hardware). I've pretty much given up on them, and just retrieve and install manually those updates that I think I need.

For example, I just ran software installer on my T42p here at work. It found updates from last January! I'd run it about two weeks ago after manually loading an update and it didn't find any of these automatically.

disturbedsaint,

I did not say a different BIOS, I said it would probably need better compatibility with the upcoming Vista OS, hence this new BIOS. :)
