T60 Core 2's HOT! or just hot?

Reports I've seen from a couple of places reviewing other mfg's Core 2 Duo laptops indicate they can run very hot. Having experienced this in the past with one of my first Thinkpads (though no problem with the current T41), I'd like to not go back to the future. :)

So, it would be nice to hear some reports from T60 Core 2 users when you get your machines as to how hot they run underneath after an half-hour or so of plugged-in use (with the speed of the chip you bought, of course).

Thanks!

I thought Core 2 was supposed to draw even less power and give off less heat than Core 1?

This is disappointing news because my laptop currently runs very, very cool, and I was thinking about a Core 2 upgrade.

I would first wait until they get out there more and then see what people think of them because it, generally, isn't a great idea to base one's impressions of something off the first few reviews of an early model. The significance of the measurement simply isn't there yet. :)

Well said. Not to mention, there is no physical reason why they should run hotter, provided the HSFs and fan controllers remained the same. The TDP increase of the merom chip is negligable in practice.

*edit, the tdp design increase SHOULD be negligable in practice ;)

Precisely. That's why I posted asking to hear from people that actually have one in hand. :)

The T2500 Yonah can reach 70C if I run 2 super_pi. Are you saying that Merom will be even hotter?

I did some research on this awhile back and it does appear that Merom throws off more heat:

whitebox notebook comparison – C2D is hotter:

C2D Alienware running hot:

C2D Winbook running hot:

C2D Dell running VERY hot:

Worse battery life:

Did I cancel my order after reading these? Of course not!
