Hi,

I'm going to buy new Thinkpad notebook but I don't know which graphic card to chose. Because I'm keen on HD video (MPEG-2 1080i, H264, X264) I would prefer card with acceleration of this types of video. Sometimes my son uses my notebook for playing games (Colin McRae, ToCa Race driver 3, Air Conflicts) so I would appreciate good gaming power. What grapic card would you recommend? I have read some topics in this forum but it doesn't help much. Thank for help.

My current notebook is R40 Pentium M 1.4 GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 7500. This card supports MPEG-2 acceleration so I'm able to play MPEG2-TS 1080i, but I have problem with H264 which play good only if I turn off deblocking.

With the FireGL, you also get an overall stronger laptop, hence the gaming experience will be better once you play with the drivers.

Are you going to be ordering straight from the czech lenovo site?

* já mam svoji T60 od alzasoftu ;)

The T60P's are configured with faster CPU's, etc.

Alright, I'm sensing a little hostility here..

Would you not agree that the T60P's are spec'ed better than non-p models? I'm sure a user can upgrade the parts himself, but if he is not comfortable doing so?

I think the only difference between the T60 and the T60-P is the P has the FireGL V5200 256MB and you can not get it in the T60 model

Well, right now the T7600 CPU (2.33 GHz) is only available on the T60P. The fastest chip available for the T60 is the T7200 (2 GHz).

Everything else seemed about the same to me -- also keep in mind the T60 comes with a larger screen option. Personally, I don't really care about a 330 MHz difference, so I decided to go with a 15-inch T60 with the X1400 graphics card, since the Mobility FireGL is supposed to have poorer gaming support, being a workstation-type graphics card.

Furthermore, the 15-inch FlexView screen available with the T60 uses a different LCD technology, and is supposed to have very good brightness and large viewing angles.

so the FireGL 256mg ram card will perform worse on some games with mid settings than the other cards?

let me ask it this way : which card between the t60 and t60p will perform better with games with mid settings, we're not talking about blowing graphics scores out of the water.

i am caught in between this in getting the t60 or the t60p.
i want the core 2 duo, and the 2.33ghz is nice. im caught bad between the 14.1" and the 15".. i figured i would be happy with the 14.1 , as it could accomodate my travelling life style and work habit, and figured the GL would do me well in some mid popular games.

am i wrong?
and the t60's will perform better in games?
i know these are business machines, and not bought for games, but it is a relative question.

thanks all.
