What Services / Programs are Necessary

I go to Morrisville State College, apparently it's famous for being a Think Pad University. I must say, that it ispretty nice having a laptop now, but there is loads of junk running in the background.

After it boots up, I only have about 560mb of free ram ... out of 1 gig. What processes are needed by the thinkpad for it's various features.

I know that it doesn't like it when I disable the sound or the zero wireless configuration.

I would like to keep:
APS ( I love this thing )
Track Point
Three buttons above track point
Middle button scrolling
Track Point
Sound

Would it help if I had a list of running processes?

I didn't have any problems with it (only 512 ram), but I also disabled a lot of processes. What I did was just type in "filename.exe process" in google and lookup what it was needed for.

Currently running on bootup:
- TpShocks (anti-shock protection of HD)
- SynTPLpr
- SynTPEnh (both for the touchpad "advanced" functions like sliding at the right side for vertical scrolling)
- PWRMGRTR (power manager)
- ACWLIcon (icon for wireless connections)
- TpKmapAp (for Fn-keys etc)
- LPMGR (I think the menu when clicking thinkvantage button)
- some non-lenovo/ibm-related stuff

All things you mention work here... (theres also a sound process but thats for "advanced sound configuration", don't need it)
