Does anyone know when Vista will start shipping on T6X's?

Will they ever provide vouchers for free upgrades if you buy a computer before they ship pre installed?

As of today they provide the free upgrades to Vista. Win XP Pro goes to Vista Business Edition. Search on the www.pc.ibm.com site for vista.

You can look up the various versions of Vista on the www.microsoft.com website. Vista Business seemed OK to me when I looked it up, but can't remember all the differences.

I have been testing the Vista Release Candidates (the Version is Ultimate) and Vista does not run critical software I need. I am going to wait. XP Pro is certainly good enough and my T41 laptop runs very well. I would rather wait, see if the vendors get new versions of critical software out in the first quarter of 2007, and then (only then) pick the laptop I want, with the version of Vista I want. Business Enterprise is the likely pick, but if Ultimate corrects my problems, it comes with Media Center built in, so I might go there. Hence, I am waiting.

If you really need to go now in terms of a purchase, then you will have to take whatever the coupon gives you.

I agree. I've never been happy with initially released software. Even XP in my opinion had issues until service pack 1. It is not as if all XP support will dissappear in a year. In fact, it may take a year just for mainstream apps to adopt 64bit support fully. By then Vista will be much better refined and stable. I'll probably be due for a new laptop then :)

SP3 for XP is due out now in 2008. There is no rush at all to move off XP. Microsoft - do you know what you are doing ? :BAAAD!:

My experience with Vista, is it's not ready on the T60p or at least not my T60p a 2613ETU. I can't get my T60p to open the Lenovo Vista Beta page, every time I go there IE crashes. Not a good sign, IMHO.

As to Ultimate, I have MCE 2005 running on my T60p, with a tuner card, on Vista, I simply get a black screen.

I have been running the last release of Vista on VMware ... and it seems rather stable ... networking functions seem fine ... but, and there is always a but, there is still a lot of IBM specific software that does not run well on Vista ... and there are still some problems with some of my other day to day programs ... what is more ... talk about memory and battery consumption ... now part of that might be because I am running it on VMware and because it is still not a final release ...

i have to admit though that I am more impressed so far with Vista than I ever was with XP ... I am even impressed with the Office 2007 especially the Outlook which has undergone the most dramatic improvement ....

an opinion ...

Is that for orders placed after today, or orders that ship after today?

EDIT: Never mind, from the site, it looks like my order placed on the 21st doesn't qualify. What a crock.

Then again, I'm in no hurry to upgrade... probably wait till all the bugs are worked out anyhow.

Incidentally though, could somebody tell me whether the HDD is user-replaceable without voiding the warranty? Once the hybrid hard drives come out, I might consider putting one in, assuming it doesn't require a different chipset or anything. Then if I upgrade to Vista, I should get improved performance and battery life... :)
