What is a C-Model?

#1 Post by xpz25nfh » Sun Oct 29, 2006 5:56 am

Hi Folks,

I am in the market for a thinkpad, and whilst searching online, I stumble over these types of listings from time to time:

For example: http://search.ncix.com/search.php?q=Lenovo&page=7

Returned:

"C MODEL.TP T60 1.83GHZ.1GO 60GO (2008W2W)"

When I checked lenovo.com for the part number: "2008W2W", I get this:

Original description: Based on 2008-CTO: T2400(1.83GHz), 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon X1300, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Does the "C" in C-Model mean customized?

Anyone? Thanks!

PS, great forum!

Thank you sir!

So the idea is that something like this:

2007-C59

Returns:

Original description: Based on 2007-93U: T2600(2.16GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15in 1600x1200 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5200, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Is simply a 2007-93U that has been upgraded? I highlighted in blue what appears to be different (i.e. 2GB of RAM as opposed to the default 1GB) Are these typically refurbed boxes? Or net new?

Thanks again!

To find out how much wear on these "returned" machines, ask them to goto the battery details and see when the battery was first started. I maybe wrong, but I don't think there's a way to reset that date.

C model boxes are custom configs .. not necessarily CTO .. but they are unique models typically built for large customers buying a serious quantity of that particular config. The letters in the machine type and model don't need to have a C in them, but typically they are unique in that they aren't usually 43U or 53U, but rather ZF9, r ZKU, KFR that kind of thing. The main difference is typically in the memory or the hard drive size, which is usually upgraded from what as typically offered.
