How can you find your keyboard FRU number?
How can you find your keyboard FRU number?
There are three keyboard types: Alps, Chiconi and NMB. Ok? Well, and there is a Lenovo page where you can lookup which part number corresponds to each one... Now the problem is: I can´t find the number of the keyboard installed in my laptop, I don´t want to look inside the machine for it, is there any other way to know it without dissassembling? Mine is a T60.
A Secon question which one is the best for you?

You can find out what FRU your laptop uses submitting your serial number on the lenovo homepage.
I would give you a link, but I tried finding that page for 15 minutes now, it's hidden deep down inside the website
The easiest way to do so is to go to Warranty -> Warranty Lookup -> (submit your model number + serial number -> then click on "View parts lookup results for this system"
This will give you a full list of FRUs your system came with
This you can then cross check with the parts list for FRUs
I like my NMB i must say, there is something to the rumours of it being the best laptop keyboard out there. I paid the price with funky hinges and a "phenomenal" TMD screen though..

T60 2007-FRG | 14.1" SXGA+ TMD | Core Duo T2400 | 1GB | X1400 | NMB keyboard [China] | 80GB 5400 RPM | Funky Hinges
Go to this page, and select "Detect and continue"; after the installation of an ActiveX control (which you must allow) you will end up in a page listing all the FRU numbers of the components (including keyboard) installed in your Thinkpad:

Well, the two ways lead to the same place... a list of parts shipped with the system... a recovery CD (which wasn´t shipped!!!) and even the ubiquitous radio labels, stickers and such minimal items... but the keyboard... nope!!! isn´t it misterious? So that the search for the holy grial begins... how by goodness sake can I find out what keyboard am I using right now?...
Strange indeed... in that page I get my keyboard listed, in the 12th line (so I discovered I have the Chicony):rleo25 wrote:... but the keyboard... nope!!! isn´t it misterious?
