BTW:
Does anyone have the URL to the hardware manual? This one
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62733
Takes me to the T60 hardware manual download on Lenovo's site, then tells me the file doesn't exist when I try to download it.... Maybe too many people doing this upgrade and Lenovo doesn't like it??

I've got a T2300. PM me your offer if you are still interested in the trade.

The T2300 isn't single core
Just noticed that the T1300 was only 125 bucks, and I might just pick one up used cheap and see if it can meet my requirements for playing the HD content. If it can do that and draw a hell of a lot less power I will be very happy

Got my T60 today, 2006-67U, pretty much a loaded system with everything I want.
Except it has a T2500 Core Duo instead of a T7200 Core 2 Duo
Checked with CPU-Z, I have a Rev. 3 motherboard, and updated BIOS to 2.08 already.
I assume this means I meet the requirement and can upgrade to Merom in the future w/o problem right?
Does anyone know if the height is the same for Yothan and Merom?
If they are of different height, then I wonder if the heatsink module would be slighty different.

Plug and chug. There are not height differences and you are ready to go as soon as you get the new chip.
Upgrade to Merom

Well, i could be wrong, but the only 2gb ram chip from lenovo is
2GB PC2-4200 CL4 NP DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM, and the 1gb chips we all use is 1GB PC2-5300 CL5 DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM, so i imagine they sent you a PC2-4200 2gb chip, while nice is most likely slowing down the whole system.

I dunno...... unless I read this wrong
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-55644
it looks like they make PC2-5300 CL5 DDR2 SDRAM 200-pin, 667mhz bus speed, in two gig sticks --but I might be misreading
so before I get nuts, I'll DEFINITELY pull them and check....... That'd piss me off if they pulled that... Why offer 4 gig, 64 bit machines, and then only sell 2 gig sticks that act as a bottleneck --
at $750 a pop?

I think you're right..... Arrrgggghhhh.....
I can't believe, after 8 months of BS with them --almost a year of trying to deal with a brain dead T43p, that they did this to me as a
SOLUTION. to my problem, and a token of "we're sorry for f*cking your life up for a year with our broken hardware and a customer service guy who was more concerned about his hangnail than my --no computer for a year
Back to customer service
But no more thinkpads.....

2GB chips have been out for over 6 months now, but don't expect to get one cheaply. The CHEAPEST I have EVER seen one is $500, and that was on eBay.
And don't expect Lenovo to give you one. It is cost prohibitive and they will NEVER do it.
It will be at least 6 months before these things come down in price to make them even considerable for an upgrade.
