I received my Thinkpad today. Found out that the brightness will change as long as the Thinkpad Power Manager Gauge is in your system tray. When the icon is removed, the on-screen brightness display does not pop-up.

Can anyone else confirm/deny this also happens with their T60? Does your T60 display the on-screen brightness changing even without the Power Manager Gauge in the system tray?

Although you've solved the problem, I must say this will still be extremely irritating. I use Notebook Battery Info and have no desire to view the PM battery. Did they mention anything about fixing this???

No. They told me that in order for the brightness to change, that icon needed to be in your system tray. Which seems weird to me because my T43 never needed that icon in the system tray to change brightness.

I know it is not a process running in the background because I checked, and when I get rid of the icon my number of processes stays the same. This must be a software issue. However, I am interested to know how many people are experiencing this phenomenon.

Kind of offnote, but I too would like it if there was a way to hide/remove the Windows battery gage.

When it's plugged in, I can remove the corresponding icon, but not the batter icon itself when I'm on battery.

The Power Manager Gague is helpful as it is.
