DVI on my T60p - do I need to buy a docking station?!
Hi,
I'm about to buy an LCD TV in Europe.
The salesrep told me that I need DVI output on my computer to convert to use it on the TV. He took a lok at my T60p and told me with a smirk that there was no DVI output on this machine.
After having searched the Internet for hours (including the search on this site), my conclusion this far is that I need a docking station to make it work. Can this be? How can I hook my comp to the TV?
BTW: Is there a wireless thingie such as Apples 'Airport' which will allow me to transfer the signal from my comp to the TV over wifi?
Thanks
Rex

Couple of options:
1. VGA to Component Video
2. VGA to S-Video
3. S Video to RCA
Some of these solutions work with some video cards and not with others. They are cheap enough that you can keep trying till you find one that works.

I think that I have seen some threads that suggest that while the T60 literature states that the machine has S-Video, it actually does not.Teerex wrote:Thanks for your suggestions.
Is there S-video on my T60p??
If I get VGA to S-video or RCA will this limit me to VGA solution in playing games, doing video editing, etc?
Thanks
Rex
S-Video and VGA are both analog (all the solutions here are). Resolution would be dependent on the TV, some can present themselves as a monitor in which case you would get the max resolution that they list. If they present themselves as a TV, the best you can get in less than 800*600.
Some TVs have FireWire - you might be able to use that.

I don't have an S-video out to test, but I connect my X31 to my Panasonic 42" (non-HD) plasma from time to time using the TH-42PA's VGA connector. The TV is rated at an 853x480p resolution, but I can feed it 1024x768 and I still get a very nice, clear image. Just don't ask me how that works!smugiri wrote:I think that I have seen some threads that suggest that while the T60 literature states that the machine has S-Video, it actually does not.

Thanks for the tip. I just checked it out, and it isn't that expensive so it may be a way out.sjhwilkes wrote:Buy an Advanced Mini Dock - it's well worth it to get both a DVI port and an S/PDIF digital audio port. This is how I connect up my Philips TV and get great picture and sound
I'm confused why I need a complete docking station like this, though. If the docking station can provide a DVI port (among many other things), couldn't I find a small gadget which provides just this?
The reason is that I would like to be able to sit with my laptop on my lap.
