How much is this worth?

Hi All, I'm thinking of acquiring this laptop:
T60 model #1953-D9U
1.66 Ghz Pentium Core Duo, 1GB Ram, 60 GB HD, CD-RW/DVD.
It will replace the T43 I'm using now.
Would appreciate some feedback on how much the T60 is worth. If it is not too much more than my T43, I may consider the upgrade.

I would say that particular model would not be worth more than $900, plus $100 a year for the warranty. But, it depends mostly on whether or not you can stand to look at that screen.

Thinkpad_T43_Fan, I vaguely remember that your T43, like the T60 you are considering, has an XGA display. If I were you, I would only upgrade to a T60 with SXGA+, which of course would cost more than this particular T60 but is worth it.

Agree, with your actual config and the alternative you have, won't make any valuable upgrade, get some bucks more and buy a Core 2 duo with SXGA Ati x1400. If for the time being that's no possible, freeze where you are...

But maybe he dislikes SXGA+ and the teeny unreadable text you're stuck with in some places, even if you increase the fonts and decrease the DPI... Some apps dont scale to it, and even more websites do not especially from IE.
Working at IBM, i know there are ppl who get SXGA+ and *HATE* it, to the point they revert back to using their old laptop instead.
If you've only had XGA and are happy, do NOT buy SXGA+ or UXGA until you have first tried it.

Thanks. Indeed I am one of those neophytes who love XGA and SXGA+ is miserable for my eyes.
I wish I was younger so I wouldn't have this problem.

I'm not a neophyte, but I have the same problem. I used a notebook with SXGA+ over a long period of time, never got used to it and never liked it. I don't think users with good vision fully appreciate the problems we face whether it's from our physical makeup, injury or (cough) advancing age. Yes, you can make adjustments to a point, but like skibunny says, not every application or web site is scalable. And when they're not, what are we supposed to do?

Under display settings, change the DPI or under appearance you can marke the font size large or larger still. Even an XGA on the 12" X60s display is very large, I can only imagine XGA on a 14".

If 14" SXGA+ makes the text too small, give 15" SXGA+ a try.

Funny how the prices are different here in Europe.
He would be shelling out at least $1500 with a 3y warranty for that sort of config in Denmark.
