Hi all, I just wanted to drop a note thanking everyone here for asking and answering so many questions and providing so much information about the various Thinkpad T60's.

Thanks to all the reading I've done here I decided to pick up a T60p (200793U), and I have to say I am beyond delighted with this machine.

I was going to wait and get one of the Core 2 Duo machines, but reading about the quality of Flexview displays I decided to get an older model with the 1600x1200 Flexview from a local distributor and man am I glad I did! I was able to check out the display in the shop, it is perfect (/knocks wood) and puts all of my other displays to shame. The distributor was great too, when he rang up the sale he charged me $400 *less* than he had quoted on the phone (though he nearly made it back with the extra gig of RAM and the dock I also ordered :). (The only weird thing was they recommended I connect to the Thinkvantage update site and get all the updates right away - so I did and oddly it said there were none. Then the next day there were enough to spend half the day updating).

I was happy to see that it had the "Vista Capable" sticker on it, so I'll be able to get the free upgrade when I want it. I was afraid it might not (who knows how long it had been in the distributers stock) but it was built in August and I guess they were already putting the stickers on.

The construction of the laptop is fantastic, I am very impressed by how cool and quiet it runs even under full load. I compare this with a co-workers Macbook which runs extremely hot, and it doesn't even have discrete graphics. Better engineering I suppose...

I was also very pleased at how much useful software there is in the ThinkVantage suite. The power control options alone are amazing! I had heard how many useful utilities were included but it surpassed my expectations. Of course the Symantec stuff has to go, but most of the rest I'll keep around.

In fact, everything about this laptop surpasses my expectations! It was expensive, but I require a reliable machine for my work and I know I've got one now.

And thanks to everyone here who without knowing it helped me decide to get this wonderful machine. I hope I'll be able to give back some useful stuff to the community as well.

for mission critical use i suggest an onsite warranty upgrade..

well worth the trivial cost..

Hi Bill...I too want to thank you for this forum and the great help and suggestions that it provides. Keep up the good work!

My T60 is set to arrive today and I had two things I really wanted to get your opinion on:

1) Is the Symantec Security Client really that bad a program? Is it needed to run the fingerprint log-in? I need to get a security program FAST and I just don't want to "screw things up" by removing Symantec and downloading another program in its place if Symantec controls some of the T60's features.

2) Is it really necesary to keep all of those stickers on your palm rest? And if I do remove them, can I safely get the "sticky" off? I will probably have Core 2 Duo, XP, ATI, and Vista Capable; to me they're like bumper stickers...I really don't like them.

@ PhysicalEd: Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase, it is nice to hear from people that feel so satisfied when they receive this excellent machine, without doubt it is the best of the crop.

@ Cory, two days had passed after I received my T60 and the Symantec security client asked for the product key because it couldn't find it, it looked as if Lenovo had installed some sort of demo on your machine... weird indeed, that was the last drop that made me remove such thing from my lappy...
