any word/idea if a core 2 duo of this is coming?

looks like the closest thing so far is:

Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16 ghz
15.0" SXGA+ IPS
X1400 M54 w/ 128MB video memory

2613-L6U was a similar version of that but Core 2 Duo.

It was released on November 1st, and a colleague ordered it several days later; should be here tomorrow morning. Serious Merom goodness; we're all pre-drooling over it already.

Even the updated tabook from today for November (version 315) still doesn't list the 2613 models.

If you have any questions about that one, that's the one I have. IIRC the one you referenced as non-core 2 duo (but with the 256mb vid card) is NLA.

Ahh, forgot to mention it's (alas) a 14" SXGA+ screen.

Yup, arrived a few hours ago. My colleague and I like it a lot!

We'd have had liked the 15" UXGA like we originally were hoping for but wanted the Merom more badly so we were willing to accept 14" SXGA+ since it was still a sufficiently high enough resolution to be acceptable.

My colleague did NOT want 1024x768 and wasn't wild about the idea of 1280x1024. But 1400x1050 was great even if it wasn't 1600x1200.

Unfortunately, there was only one manufacturer of 1600x1200 screens up to Lenovo standards, and they went under....

so...that screen will soon be no more...

There are very few remaining T60p's w 1600x1200 displays. Fortunately....I have one of them....

the main things i was going for were core 2 duo, IPS, and 256MB video memory

I don't think there is a current T60p model with IPS.

yeah, that was the point of the post, to see if anyone heard anything about one coming, cause i know people hear rumors and things from someplace or another

It's out now (T60P with 15" flexview that is) - they changed their website today. I was kicking myself when I first saw that (just got mine a little more than a week ago, wanted the 256mb vid card but wanted the flexview more), but then I saw that the special price I got (more special than EPP) is better by a good bit, so I'm still happy with my purchase.

I have a 15" t60 - the flexview is simply amazing. Colors are natural and nice. My friend has a sony FE 970 here, and the Flexview simply blows it awa in every respect - truer looking colors, excellent contrast and simply amazing viewing angles.

I'd say it is without a doubt the best laptop monitor for photo editing there is. For movie viewing there is a little bit of what I think is called ghosting (you know how on LCD's since they are slower than CRT's moving images kinda drag), but it's not a big deal (I probably wouldn't notice it if I weren't looking for it).

You really can view it at any angle. While the factory color profile was WAY off, once I profiled the monitor things look really really good. It's contrast and sharpness match prints very well.

Another nice thing, since I'm almost always under flourescent lighting, is it is very low reflection.

As far as brightness it's pretty good. Obviously, for photo editing I want true brightness, so they are all the same to me assuming they let me properly profile them. It can be used outside in normal light (lets say partly cloudy with you facing the sun) without any problem seeing the image. In direct sunlight though, you have to be at max brightness, and even then while it will work it isn't the best image in the world. Having said that, I haven't seen a laptop that was better outdoors (though I also haven't seen a glossy laptop screen outdoors - which have their own share of problems for photo editing).

I can't find your model number 2613 in tabook; is it a new one or an old one?

New. tabook version 315 still doesn't list any of the new type 2613 models... hopefully they fix that next month in version 316.

I have a t42p with 15" 1600x1200 screen. I profiled it with Moncao Optix Pro to a "monitor native" whitepoint. Actually the factory profile was not far off. After profiling its avg dE is 3.22 - pretty good! However its brightness is a little low - Monaco measured it at 132.92 cd/m2, whereas a Z61m we borrowed from Lenovo (1680x1050 screen) measured avg dE 4.7, brightness 158.45 cd/m2. So, although its color accuracy isn't as good as the T42p, and it isn't flexview, it still puts out a very nice, bright image and its nicer to use on a day-to-day basis because of the extra brightness.

Ok, so the point of this long-winded message is this: the Z61m screen is rated by Lenovo at 200 nits, as is the 15" 1400x1050 Flexview. I'm wondering if the Flexview technology has improved since my T42p came out and the screens are brighter now? Or is the 200 nits rating on the Flexview screen just wishfull marketing on Lenovo's part?

Reviews comparing the two (check the reviews at www.notebookreview.com, that's where I think I saw it) said the new T60 flexview is a better screen. What I have read is that the T42 used an IPS screen and the T60's is actually S-IPS.

Me? Hmm. I got the 14" 1400x1050 SXGA+ screen. I'm actually not sure how to tell the difference between a Flexview and non-Flexview by looking at it. (I know what the Flexview IPS benefits are, just don't know how to identify one by sight alone.)

I'd normally consult the tabook but hasn't been updated yet.

No, that's not flexview. A way to tell just by looking at is it sit up straight, push the laptop screen all the way back (so that it is paralell to the keyboard, and see if you can still see everything clearly.

You know, we're probably comparing apples to oranges. My T42p 1600x1200 Flexview was made by a different company than your 1400x1050 Flexview so they may be totally different. Probably that's why your screen's factory colors were off and mine weren't. I wonder if anyone ever compared the Flexview 1600x1200 to the Flexview 1400x1050 screens directly?

Hey gator - do you have a T60 or a T60p powering your 15" Flexview?

Here's a site (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/TFT_display) which lists all the Thinkpads and the make/model of the screens they have. The T42p 1600x1200 Flexview is made by IDTech, the T60p 1600x1200 Flexview was made by BOE-Hydis (now bankrupt?), and the T60 1400x1050 Flexview is made by LG-Philips. I think you are right that its S-IPS from looking at Phillips literature.

So, you can't assume that one Flexview necessarily looks like another.

It is a good screen, but I wouldn't say it is the best for photo editing. I have a T43p 15 inch and a Sony AR-18 TP. Sony's screen is better.

Isn't that Sony a glossy screen? Is your workflow fully profiled? I've never seen a glossy screen that was an accurate editing tool in a fully profiled workflow (too sharp and too contrasty).

Well, you're comparing apples to oranges. Marlinspike has a T60 Flexview, that screen is made by Philips. The T43 Flexview screens are made by IDTech. So Marilinspike's screen may be better than yours, especially since its an S-IPS. Has anyone compared the IDTech flexviews to the Philips flexviews?

Yes, it is profiled and in my opinion, it is better than my T43p's screen. However, I didn't know your screen is made by Philips, so I shouldn't comment on your screen.

What is the difference between 2613-L6U and 2007-8JU (can be found in TABOOK)?

Are they both Merom chips?

Yup, both are Merom. Interestingly enough, the two products are very similar except in a few spots, from a quick look at the specs.

2613-L6U comes with a WWAN card bundled; 2007-8JU doesn't -- though it's an orderable option. This confused us when we looked at the order summary at Lenovo's website; it didn't mention the WWAN card even though we knew we had one included.

A call to Lenovo sales cleared it up -- turns out it was because it was considered to be an integral part of the bundle for this particular type/model but the sales rep agreed that it was confusing-looking. We got the Verizon WWAN card.

The 2613 in question is 2 GHz T7400; 2007 in question is 2.33 GHz T7600.

Both has the same video card and memory. I think the 2613 came with smaller amount of memory (512 MB) and HD (5400 RPM 60 GB?) by default; we upped the specs there for the customization, obviously. The 2007 comes with 1 GB RAM and a 7K100 [or equiv] HD by default.

Same screens for both. Thought I remembered the 2613 came with a 6 cell battery by default? 2007 comes with 9 cell.

So in general, it appears as if 2007-8JU is positioned as a 'nicer' T60p out of the box.
