Hey all,

Im just trying to decide between a X60s and a T60..
Ok, this is not what this post is about, but...:
If i go T60, its either a T2400 or a T5600 .
Is there a big difference between the two processors?
The price difference is not huge, so...

Its either a T60 2007-FRG , T2400 , or a T60 2007-FUG with the T5600

ok, just been looking at some benchmarks. Looks like the T5600 is ~10-20% faster, for pure number crunching.
So, looks like worth getting, considering the price difference is not big.
However, im wondering if im likely to have more heat = noise issues, using a T5600 compared to a T2400.... can someone compare the two in that regard?
Obviously battery live would be a bit less too, but i wouldnt care about that actually.

To answer this question...you are correct, the price difference is negligible, Intel made it that way by pricing the new chips the same as the old, so to me it's a no-brainer; get the faster chip and newer technology. Because you are looking at a Core Duo (T2400) vs. a Core 2 Duo (T5600). With an even newer technology from Intel looming on the horizon, at least get the most up-to-date now, especially when you are talking a few bucks. Some "purists" will say that if you don't do a lot of multitasking you won't notice much of a difference with the Newer Core 2, but when you are talking less than $50, and buying a tool that you may use for the next few years, I would still upgrade...IMHO. the difference is ~150 us$ , the T2400 is a special offer thing.

the machines seem identical , apart from the processor. (14" sxga, ati x1400)
actually, i just saw there is a slight weight difference. (core2duo is slightly lighter )..
Anyway, if i go T60, itll be the core2duo , i think.

Actually from what is being posted, the newer Core 2 is actually cooler running, and less drain on the battery. Intel keeps trying to up the processing power, while decreasing the strain on the notebook.

Core 2 Duo (T5XXX, T7XXX) runs 64-bit code which you may want to use during the life of your laptop.

Also, get the built-in 'n' wireless: e.g. 802.11a/b/g / n for the extra $35.

It is draft n, but made so that it is software fixable to final version and 'n' has much higher bandwidth and range.

How or where you can get the "built in" WLAN a/b/g/n? something that lenovo is not offering that option.

I was told by the Lenovo rep that it would be 3-4 weeks before they had those in-stock...that was last week.

On the X60 it is listed on the second page of customization for building your own. It is certainly there because I configured and purchased such a system.
