T60 - TV out capability

#1 Post by frontpagebob » Fri Nov 10, 2006 1:59 am

The T60 does not have S Video out. I find I like to play the occasional game during breaks from homework.

Is there any way to attach the T60 to a TV so that I can run the game on the laptop but be able to watch the output on the TV?

I don't want to swap the video card, but would be open to other solutions.

Thank you

The answer is basically "no". Your best options are the VGA output from the laptop, or a DVI/HDMI connection from a docking station. Then you need a TV that can accept one of these signals, or a $100-$200 device to convert VGA to component video (with crappy quality).

Basically, the T60 is a lousy A/V machine. It's really too bad.

Thanks for the information. Where are the vga ports on the laptop? I don't see a red/yellow/white port on any of the sides of the t60?

VGA, not composite out. It's the 15 pin d-sub on the left side of the laptop. You know, a monitor cable.

BTW, you'll sometimes find DVI-> composite or VGA -> composite video cables out there. If it's just a $20 cable with no electronics, it won't work on your Thinkpad. Those cables are for video cards that have other video signals hidden in the usual DVI or VGA. Thinkpad video output doesn't have that. That's why you need a $100+ convertor with actual electronics.

Actually there are a few options.

You get software solutions that force VGA to output 15.7Khz C Synced RGB interlaced at 60Hz 720*480 - this is a TV compatible signal - However most North American and Canadaian sets cannot accept raw RGB (However European and Japanese ones can).

on the other hand their are VGA to component converters that convert basically any RGB signal into a YUV colourspace :)
760ED All the way.

FEEL THE BURN! From the bottom of that particular laptop... right in the bawsack! eek

Doing a little searching, I found the following, which I believe would work with a T60 (or other notebook with only VGA output). It'll cost you a Franklin though. [something like nelson referred to above]

Computer to TV video adapter/converter
DKB
