As I said in the post about screen cleaners, I regularly use Windex and paper towels to clean the whole laptop including the screen. Works great, haven't had any problems since 1996 when I got my first Thinkpad.

I would strongly recommend to not use Windex, or any ammonia based cleaner for that matter (ethanol alcohols and high, non-branched alcohols aren't good for this either), on any LCD screen. I have seen screens get damaged like that at a high rate.
For the outside of the Thinkpad, it is fine, but I would rather use isopropyl alcohol and a dash of water. I also use Klearscreen and a Microfiber chamois cloth for the external portions of the Thinkpad.

Beware of cleaners, factory instructions say mild soap with water for outside and screen, and isopropylic alcohol with water (50%-50% solution) for keyboard, and thats all. And try not to rub frequently.

One of the hardware techs at work gave me a can of stuff that his company uses on the outside plastic surfaces of laptops, pcs and faxes. This cleaner made my x23 look new and I have used it to clean and restore a number of laptops. It should NEVER be used to clean the lcd screen. It is called "Stoner Plastic Surface Cleaner"
Manufactured by Stoner, Quarryville, PA, 717-786-7355. Not only does it clean great but actually appears to restore the plastic surface. However, if you keep the thinkpad clean from the beginning by wiping it regularly with a damp cloth you will never need to use a plastic cleaner but if you've acquired a really grubby used laptop with years of fingerprint grease on it this stuff is incredible. Works great on the palmrest and keyboard also.
