Dual channel ram?

#1 Post by marlinspike » Wed Nov 15, 2006 2:08 pm

Does the T60 support dual channel ram (I.e. if I add another 1gb stick will I gain both another gig or ram plus faster ram, or just another gig of ram)?
T60 2007-7JU (15" Flexview, has a T60p mobo for the v5200, 4gb ram, changed HDD w/7200rpm 100gb, T7400 2.16ghz Core 2 Duo)

both side should be same memory.
only 512m+512M
or 1G + 1G
or 2G + 2G

if u choose 1G +512m. it does not work for duo channel.

But the question is, does this laptop support dual channel? Crucial.com says no, but that seems like it must be wrong.

I ordered a T60p with

1 x 1GB
1 x 512MB

I am guessing there is no dual-channel with this configuration?

Ok, Crucial's live chat said it was a typo. But they also said that the but they also said to have dual channel it not only has to be the same size stick, but even the same brand...true?

Not true (I asked the same question on this forum several months ago). You just need the exact the same type in both slots, it's okay if they are different brands.

Hey guys I got a Corsair Value Select 1Gb PC2-5300 and CPU-Z shows that I am using dual channel even though they are of different brand. So go get it, now it runs faster!!!!

is there a noticeable benefit from dual channel?

say if I went from:

512MB + 1GB

to

512MB + 512MB

Or would having more RAM always be faster than just having dual channel?

I would say having more ram is always better. although CPU-z shows my pc running dual channel ram, the improve in speed in minimal unless you open like 2 or 3 heavy applications such as matlab.
