T60P only $50 more than T60?

I had a T42 for 2.5 years, and there was no end to the problems that I had with it. My ThinkPad had the system board replaced 6 times, the CPU replaced and the LCD replaced. After one trip to the depot, I received it back with the wrong model system board. After another, it was completely dead when it arrived back at my door after supposedly being "fixed."

The other day IBM agreed to give me a refund on the machine, but only after trying to fix it unsuccessfully for 8 weeks! So now I'm in the market for a new laptop. As many problems as I've had, I hear that the new Lenovos are built very well so I've been checking out the T60s.

Looking at the Lenovo website this morning, it looks like I can get a similarly configured T60P for only $50 more than a T60 (both T7200, XP Pro, 14.1 SXGA+, 1.5 GB SDRAM, 100 GB 5400rpm HD, DVD-R). The price on the T60 is $1447; the T60p is $1497.

It appears to me that only difference between the T60 and the T60p is the ATI Mobility Fire GL vs. the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400? Is this correct, or is there something else I'm missing? Are there any drawbacks to the T60P like decreased battery life?

This is about $500 less than I paid for my T42. Is this just a good sale, or have prices come down in general that much? I am toying with waiting until the end of December to buy to see if the widescreen T60s are released, but don't want the price to shoot up.

Thanks for the help!

It's a good sale.

The sale prices are good until 12/11 right? And widescreen is supposed to be released 11/28 isn't it? I think those are both correct dates and mean you can wait for widescreen without missing out on the sale.

As someone who was plagued with a total lemon T43p, and a lot of customer satisfaction errors......... I gotta say the T60p-94u they they replaced the T43p with is great.... Feels tight, and stable.... and I seriously tried to burn it in for two weeks.... The Thinkvantage tools are all working; updates were problem free, build is fine....

... I'm a happy camper <knock on wood>

I had a friend that worked in IBM support and he told
some T42's had a system board problem although i never had
problem with my previous T42 and my current T60 is excellent.
