Frequency @ 266mhz? How come?

Hi, all:

I bought a t60 (2623-d4u) used, but in perfect shape. The guy who sold it to me added 512mb ram to it. When I run CPU-Z, under Memory, it tells me that the RAM is running at a frequency of 266.4. I was under the impression that it should be 333, or thereabouts. Can anyone explain why this is happening? It seems to indicate a big hit to the speed of my system.

I can't find anything in the BIOS that lets me change the speed, and disabling CPU and PCI management in power management doesn't change anything. Is it possible that guy put in the wrong memory? Is there anything else I should look at?

first, i moved this to the T60 confrence..
this is where T60 questions belong..

are you sure that the former owner installed the right memory..?
check the part number..

finding some software to check the type of ur memory.
if it still shows DDR-266, then , good luck .

My apologies for posting to the wrong forum, and my thanks for your reply.

I opened up the t60 and sure enough, the guy had installed one chip of pc2-4200 and one of pc2-5300. The mobo will run both, but at 4200 speed. Now it's just a question of seeing whether he'll make this right.

If not, is it worth buying a new 5300 chip? Will the difference be more than the 10-15% difference in clock speed between the two frequencies?

You can sell the 266MHz ram ( here in Market Place, ebay, local buy and sell, etc ), and use the money to get the ram that the machine is designed for.

The price difference should be minimal.
