A Few Concerns With A New T60

I just received my new T60 in the mail, which I ordered through the employee plan. Core 2 Due, 1.83 GHz 1gb ram...

Anyway, one of the first things I noticed was that the label on the laptop itself was for the Intel Centrino Duo and not the Core 2 Duo. Is this normal? After check the system details, it says that I do have the Core 2 Due installed:
Lenovo
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
T5600 @ 1.83Ghz
1.83 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM

I know it's not that big of a deal, but it just made me wonder...

Also, is there any way to just turn off the fingerprint reader in order to get into Windows? I read how people uninstalled the fingerprint reader software, but is there an option just to turn it off? I'll post some more questions as I think of them, but I was just wondering what everyone thought about these concerns. Thanks! :D

Centrino Duo refers to a platform, not a processor, so it is valid. The first Centrino laptops were powered by Pentium M processors (Banias and Dothan). Next came the "Core" chips (Yonah), and now the Core 2 chips (Merom). You have a Merom.

The option to disable the fingerprint reader should be in the BIOS.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forum :)

Also, you can disable the FPR through the software as well (there should be a control center option for it under the ThinkVantage suite).

This is the option I used and it works really well. For some reason I must have "defective" fingerprints as I have had 3 ThinkPads with FPR and could not get any of them to read my fingerprints. Conversely, nearly everyone else I know uses the ThinkPad FPR with no problem.

Cheers....

Do you have very dry skin? I've heard that people who have very dry fingers have trouble with fingerprint scanners.

It isn't really the dry skin, except in the case of extreme dryness where the "ridges" are very ill-defined and are short. Most of the time, it is simply some form of EM interference in the surroundings that can do it; certain overhead fluororescents can do it as well. :)

Thanks for the quick responses! This is really a great community, which is one of the main reasons why I decided to get a Thinkpad. I have another question for you all. I've noticed a loud beep that sounds when the computer is started up, put into suspend mode, coming back from suspend, etc. Is there any way to turn this beep off? I haven't tried the mute button, but I doubt that would solve the problem. If any of you know what I'm talking about, please let me know. It's probably somewhere in the BIOS, but I was just wondering if there was an easier way to turn this off.

welcome to the Forums!

To disable the beep:
1. Go to the Device Manager (Right Click on My Computer-->Hardware-->Device manager) and check "Show Hidden Devices" under 'View' Menu.
2. Expand the Non-Plug and Play list and disable the "Beep" device.

Have fun with your T60!
