The 15.0" SXGA+ Flexview Display T60p is back on Lenovo's site - also, the z61p model is out. So I am guessing that we'll most probably see a UXGA widescreen T60p on 28th.

I kind of think this makes a lot of sense: if you want a UXGA screen, you have to go for a widescreen T60p. All other consumer widescreens are going to be in the Z series and T60 will get a non-workstation class 128MB X1400 card.

Smart strategy by Lenovo to demarcate the product lines so that there is no internal competition.

Why should you HAVE to go for a widescreen if you want UXGA? Widescreen makes the computer bigger, lowers the battery life, and is a less desirable aspect ratio for many people. What is "wrong" with a UXGA 1600x1200? If you want a WUXGA, just get the Z61p.

Errr, why, exactly, would widescreen lower battery life, given the same diagonal screen size?

If you want a WUXGA, just get the Z61p.

Lenovo is not listing them on the web site OR shipping them to month-old orders..

RUSH2112, I just posted some information and my speculation. I already own a Thinkpad (see sig). And FYI, Lenovo has not been shipping Z61p for people who ordered them a month back and it is not available anymore on the Z series page.

So obviously a req'd component is on significant backorder. Maybe it's related to the display availability...maybe not.

Why is the uxga 4:3 gone? Not enough demand in market and the only supplier went under.

Like it or not it looks like the future of high end panel displays is going down a wider path.

There is a greater screen area, which means it requires more power. It doesnt seem like much, but the 14" T Series gets 30-60 minutes more than the 15"

Somehow my school still has dozens of 15" UXGA T60p's in stock. Too expensive for me though ($2,800!!).

But as long as the diagonal measurements are the same, the 4:3 screen is actually bigger -- 108 square inches at 15" size as opposed to 101 square inches for the 8:5 screen.

15" 4:3 screen: 12in x 9in
15" 8:5 screen: 12.72in x 7.94in

The 15" widescreen area is actually halfway between that of a 14" 4:3 and a 15" 4:3.

As opposed to 15.0"? Sure, that would increase the screen area by about 6%, but that still means that a 15.4" widescreen would have no more area than a 15.0" 4:3 display.

Or in general? Dell does offer 14.1" and 12.1" widescreen displays as well.

Of course, I meant there aren't 15.0" widescreens. I owned a 12.1" Dell Inspiron 700m.

Right. But a 15.4" wide-screen has an area of 106.6 sq in, as opposed to a 15.0" 4:3, which is 108 sq in. So the power consumption should not be higher ...

is the new core 2 duo 15" T60p flexview the s-ips?

don't want a Z. want the T. i almost bought a t60p a week ago. and im thanking the Lord that i did not. i thought i was set on the 14" and almost made the move on the buy, but now finding out 15 is out with flexview i think i may do this. i was really worried about the flexview ghosting that so many people talk about. it is probably not as bad as people make it. but i will be watching some dvds and movies on it, and an occasional game or 2, any one out there think i won't notice a difference?
