Why is IBM selling T60-series Lenovo Thinkpads?

#1 Post by jtreble » Tue Nov 21, 2006 11:04 am

I’m surprised to find that IBM is selling T60-series Lenovo Thinkpads on their IBM Certified Used site. I had assumed that IBM would simply sell off their existing stock (e.g., everything up to and including the T43-series) of used inventory after the Lenovo deal. What gives? Will IBM continue to sell Lenovo ThinkPads for a while? Thanks in advance.

Hi.

IBM is in charge of everything that has to do with post-sales operations: support, warranty,...
I assume that refurbishing and reselling laptops is part of it
T43 2668-92G (upgraded to 1GB RAM) (don't have it anymore)
X60 1709-H6U (upgraded to 2GB RAM)
T60 1951-A47

Well, but that common interest share is good news for us...

I know ppl who have bought these, and they were off-lease. Maybe 1 year old but refurbished to look like new. Battery was new with zero cycles on it.
I think they're usually off-lease because it's IBM Global Financing. If you're really lucky, it's excess inventory (essentially new).

But you cannot upgrade/extend the warranty.

Some of the descriptions look like mass purchased/ordered business intended models too (software choices etc), so I'd bet some are excess inventory, like you say.
