Hi I'm new here. I just bought my son an R60. I've had Sony, HP, Compaq and Fijutsu laptops and I am very impressed with the R60., including the direct sales process and fast shipping. So I'm thinking of buying another ThinkPad.

I like the R60 becuase it has Firewire and it seems to be built like a tank. I have not seen a T60. In terms of build/durability is the T60 more or less durable. I know it is a slimmer form factor, so Lenovo need to get components into a smaller space, but is there any downside to that?

Also, I really like the built qaulity of the R60 screen and how it is recessed. Seems well sealed from dust - is that true of the T60.

Finally, I am a writer, build PowerPoint presentations and I'm also a photographer and use Photoshop. Is flexview going to make that much of a difference to screen brightness and quality? I assume it can be calibrated?

On the build quality - consider this, the R series is the "budget" Thinkpad and the T is the flagship. The T's are the best build quality. However, note that the T60 doesn't have firewire (which I never use anyways).

On flexview, for photos it does matter (yes it is calibrateable...and in fact, it wasn't accurate at all until calibration). With enough time I've found a person can get used to just about any screen for photo editing so the fact that the flexview is a better screen alone isn't worth the premium, but the flexview aspect of it is. If you've ever edited photos on a laptop I'm sure you've played with the screen display to get it to show you the most accurate image - with flexview that no longer matters, if you can physically see the screen you are getting an accurate image.

Everything you like about the R60 is even more so with the T60. Not one thing bad to say about the T60 units. However, Firewire is not built in on the T60.

If you are going to carry the notebook with you at all, I recommend the 14.1" units -- in which case Flexview is not an option. Size, weight, and battery life are in favor of the 14.1" units.

If the notebook will be anchored to a desk, then you have the option of 15" Flexview screens.

For me, Flexview does not compensate for the bulk of the 15" units. However, this is purely a matter of opinion and personal preference. I am certain that you will see others state that it should be Flexview or nothing ...

You will not be dissatisfied with whichever screen you get as long as you make sure to select the screen with the resolution and size you prefer.

I carry mine everywhere. Would 14" be easier to carry? A little, but I really don't find 15" to be a pain. I would say for me (consider that I go through about 1000 photos each week) 14" portable is like 10 pts better than 15" but flexview is like 30pts better than not, so it ends up being a net gain.

T is Thinkpads flagship if you liked the R60 you will be amazed by the T60!
