seriously, I love the screen on the right.

Personally, i do not think that it's amazing.

1. it's either too bright or too much reflection of light and other views when watching a movie or doing others.
2. Finger prints on bright screens are not that easy to clean.
3. Bright screen needs more care, 'cause of the easy-scratch.

I guess opinions differ on this subject. I think it is amazing...just the fact alone that you don't have to depend on the IBM screens which disappointed me a little when I got my T60.

What kind of screen is it and was it hard to replace it?

Sounds like you have issues with touching the screen. Lesson #1 don't touch!

How is this an improvement? Whatever you are trying to see on the screen is polluted by reflections of everything in sight.

Wow, this really changes my decision-making on which Thinkpad to buy!

Can the original poster offer more information on this?

I have been waiting for the new widescreen T-series to come out, hoping that they might have a gloss-screen option (my opinion is that they are amazing as well!).

The sales rep told me that you can look at the screen options on the Z series, and deduct that those are the ones that will be offered on the wide T series.

But I would rather have a gloss-screen, than a wide screen. So if the upcoming widescreens don't have a gloss screen, I would rather buy one of these 4:3 screens and transplant that gloss screen into it.

eeek! my eyes, my eyes! I love the matte display and would never have a glossy display. But I suppose some people are fond of the saturated, bright colors ... well, each one to his own!

like I said earlier, it is quite clear that either you like it or you don't, but for those who do, could we have some more info by the person who did it or are you just gonna tease us with those pics?

Almost looks like a spray gloss paint job due to the surface imperfections in the reflection of the lower right shot.

While I personally *hate* glossy screens, I've gotta say good job. If you like the glossy, that must be a very useful mod, and now you have quite a unique thinkpad.

In principle you can do this with a piece of PET film such as Mylar (tm) -- see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PET_film_( ... _oriented) . If cut to the exact dimensions, with the proper back finish it should stick to the screen just by static attraction. The hardest part of the project is probably getting a small, clean piece of clear Mylar without having to buy a whole roll, cutting it to exact dimensions -- obviously you don't want to run an Exacto knife over the edge of your screen, and avoiding creases in handling. If you don't mind disassembling the bezel dimensions are not so critical, it could be cut slightly over size. You also probably want to choose a thin piece of film, since the existing screen already tends to touch and rub on the trackpoint, and to minimize reflections between the inner and outer surfaces. Obviously, when applying it the screen has to be absolutely clean and the application must be done carefully to avoid any bubbles; because the Mylar has a certain rigidity it should be easier to avoid bubbles than with a more floppy plastic film.
Still, I don't quite think it is worth the effort.

Mylar might make it look glossy but it won't give the substantial brightness increase that the images show.

if you guys really like the glossy screen, choose Fujitsu laptop, since the Last thinkpad products quality has been degraded by LENOVO... what a sad news to hear!
