Just checking about partition getting wiped on factory reset

Hi,
I've repeatedly read that doing a factory reset from recovery CDs will wipe any partitions I have created.
(1) Is this also the case if I do a reset from the hidden partition, i.e. if I use the ThinkVantage button on power on and do a Factory reset, will that wipe the partition I created to store my documents?
(2) I read that partitions created by Partition Magick will cause problems if I use the Think Vantage button to do a factory reset. Is that right, or did I read incorrectly?
(3) And finally, after I have done the factory reset can I create a new partition (using Partition Magic) and install Linux and have a dual boot system? Again, I've read that the security software has problems with Dual boot set ups. But I am not sure if I read correctly.
