T60p locks up when using IEEE 1394 firewire card

#1 Post by Turboqueef » Sat Nov 25, 2006 12:09 am

Hum...

I love my new T60p except....

I just tried to download some video from my camcorder and I am having trouble with the computer locking up. Here are the specifics:

* Camcorder is a Panasonic PV-GS300
* Connection to PC is via DYNEX IEEE 1394 notebook card (firewire)
* Software is MovieMaker (XP)
* Lock up occurs when I start to capture the video... it locks up immediately or sometimes I get a few seconds of capture then it locks up.

FYI... no problems when I use the USB port to capture (except horrible quality video that is)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff B

Hey Turbo,
There is some useful discussion on this at the topipc "Firewire?" at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... t=firewire
If you look for my replies you can find I had good luck with the Adaptec DuoConnect AUA-1422 PCMCIA card on my T60p. I would suggest switching cards and see if that works.

I don't think that card is still available through PC Connection but you might find it at CompUSA or another supplier.

Good luck

i had samr problems with the adaptec card when using my sony camcorder. I upgraded the video drivers on my t60p when a new version was released...and viola! No more lockups.

I was locking up with the latest video drivers, I tried to roll back to previous driver but still locked up. I just picked up the AUA-1422 and tried a quick download from the video camera... no trouble. I am going to do some major downloading later tonight, that will put it to the real test.
