V5250 vs V5200

Hi everyone,

I ordered a T60p last Friday (2613L8U) and it came with a ATI Mobility Fire GL V5200 256MB.

The next day i noticed they started configuring the T60p with the 5250 version of the same card (2613CTO).

Anyone know the difference between the two? Don't think its worth it to change my order...maybe they will go ahead and throw in the 5250 on my order (yea right).

This is my first ThinkPad! ...actually this is my first notebook computer

...always went with the more powerful desktop computers....but my new employer seems to like to purchase notebook computers instead of desktops.

i had the same question but after googling for a while, it seems like it's rather a minor update, no mentions anywhere of any particular advances in the 5250.

Just use the search function on these forums. The difference is that the 5200 is based on the ATI X1600 card, and the 5250 is based on the X1700 card.

Small difference, I'm not sure the details.

So does the x1600.

I think the x1700 has more "pixel pipelines" and is made on an 80nm die instead of whatever they use for the x1600. So it's basically cooler and a little faster.

The 1700 seems to be "Vista-ready" whatever that means:

ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 -- M56GL -- 71D4

Lenovo however lists it as M66, but on Ati's site http://ati.amd.com/developer/vendorid.html it is only M56GL.

x1700 does not have more pixel pipeline, but slightly faster clockspeed. It's marginal though. X1700 is not better for 3D than x1600. You wont see any difference.
