Thermal Paste

Hello,
I just received my Core 2 Duo processor 2.33GHz (T7600). I will be changing my Core Duo 1.83GHz (T2400) processor. When I remove the heatsink, should I apply the thermal paste directly on to the processor die or on to the heatsink/fan assembly?
Thanks in advance

directly to the die and let it get spread with the mounting force.
thanks

ewin, good luck with that and please report back your result and issues removing/replacing components. I just upgraded the processor in my R52 and it went smooth except for a rounded of screw (from the factory) in the fan assembly which required a dremmel tool to remove.
A small amount of paste is good just like iatacs19 says and the force of reinstalling the fan will squeeze it flat.
The Arctic Silver5 web site has a couple of PDF tutorials on how much to apply, somethin around the size of a grain of rice is sufficient. When I initially removed the heatsink there was a noticeable amount of paste that had run over the sides, not a lot but it is OK to have some squeeze out to ensure full coverage.
I cleaned the heatsiink and cpu with 99.9 percent pure alchohol (that my cousins make out here in the woods in North Carolina

just kidding).
Be sure to use NHC or something to monitor your temps afterwards so you'll know whats happening cooling wise.
Good luck.

i would just wonder why do you want to downgrade it to Core Duo instead of Core 2 Duo processor

Gunston,
I think what Edwin meant was he had a CD T2400 originally on his T60 and now that his new C2D T7600 processor arrived, we would like to swap it for the CD T2400
Edwin,
Did you notice increased performance after the T7600 upgrade?
