Hi, came across this today cos I got really annoyed with my fan volume. It improved performance a little bit but seems to make my system run at a cooler temperature. Fan no longer runs at constant speed. Here is another forum discussion on this. I carried out this procedure successfully.

Hope this helps all those with fan woes.

which thinkpad do you have? my T60 (2623-d6u) had the hotfix already.

i don't have the registry key mentioned in that link, but i'm a bit hesitant to do that because of what i read on the microsoft site:

Note: This solution favors performance gains over power savings. Although benchmark performance scores may improve, battery life could be negatively affected. Accordingly, this kernel policy change may be disabled by a registry key to allow for maximum flexibility.
