hey, i finally put in my order for a my very first thinkpad, after months of debate and lurking on these forums a little too much probably.

this may have been covered, but i didnt know the best way to search it, if it is somewhere i'll gladly delete this post.

there is a large price jump from the C2D 2.0 ghz and 2.33ghz, price difference is $525.

is .33ghz that much of a difference to justify $500? it makes the difference of having a system for $2500 or $3000. i know everyone will say it depends what you're doing - raw and tiff files in photoshop cs2 and bridge, from digi slr and film scans for print. not video editing and rendering.

what's your theory on the situation?

No difference for most things you do. T7200 is the best bang for the buck. Unless you KNOW WHY you need the 2.33 C2D, you won't need it.

I agree. No way is it worth $525.

thanks for the replies, so, what things would you notice the difference then, my guess is you'd say video and 3d editing and rendering, but just checking, i get really ocd and particular about these things. and usually i just think, what's an extra $525, right now it seems like a lot, but after a few months it won't.

You might try calling to order to discuss the various discounts (education, government, various credit cards, etc.) with a sales rep. I did this, and the price difference between a T60 with 2.0 GHz C2D and a T60p with a 2.33 GHz, all other specs the same, was under $100, making the decision a no brainer.

Had it been a $500 difference, I'd stick with the 2.0.
