Is LCD replacement eligible for onsite service?
Is LCD replacement eligible for onsite service?
Dear all,
I read through some horrible stories about Solectron depot repair and am really too scared to send my brand new T60 to them for LCD replacement.
I am considering to update my warranty to onsite one and then ask an onsite replacement.
Does it sound possible?
Thanks in advance!

I just had the LCD replaced on a T41p on-site with no issues if that's your question. I'm not fond of depot repair programs because of the sensitivity of the data on our machines and the liabilities involved. Therefor all of our T'Pads are purchased with upgraded on-site warranties. We consistently get the same fellow in to do our repairs and he's been very effective and reliable. That's been one of the factors is our decision to source all of our engineering machines through IBM/Lenovo.
I've had one depot repair situation, but it was on a PowerBook. They turned it around in 2 days, no issues, problem resolved. I just don't like the systems being out of our control if possible and the users don't like the lost time.

T'Pad 600e, 770x, A20p, A21p, A30p, A31p (2653-H3U), T43p (2668-Q2U) & T60p (2623-DDU)...it's an addiction.
Thanks a lot for your input.
But I also saw some threads here complaining onsite services.
Maybe they were just unlucky.

you have to choose your warranty when you buy it.
once you choose 3 years deposit, then it will be in that way. can not be changed"
well, I dont know other situations. this is what I got from him.
You can use onsite to replace the LCD as long as its not cracked by User Induced Damage.
Unless the tech asks you to send the hdd into the depot. This is sometimes asked but not required. The depot service has their own test images for the system in question. If it works on the test hard drive. It should work on your hard drive. If it does not. Then that is something else to troubleshoot.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
Re: Is LCD replacement eligible for onsite service?
Really? I just updated my default 1-year depot repair warranty to 1-year onsite warranty yesterday, though not effective yet today.

Re: Is LCD replacement eligible for onsite service?
I guess you can. Actually the sales person tried to persuade me to buy 4 year onsite service and protection plan also.
Make sure you record your customer id and order id and then invoice. Some people complained their warranty purchase was not recognized by IBM after several years.
