turning off keyboard beep ?

#1 Post by awallin » Tue Dec 05, 2006 2:36 am

Hi, I have an annoying beep on my t60 whenever I accidentaly press two keys simultaneously or maybe press a key and the trackpoint simultaneously - not very nice if trying to work discretely in a quiet place...

how do I turn this off ?

Open up the Control Panel, go to System and click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" button. After that, go to View>"Show Hidden Devices..." and click. Then find the entry under "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" that says "Beep;" open up its properties window and disable the device, apply the changes. :)

That should get rid of the beep.

thanks for the quick reply.

I was afraid that my question would be a bit stupid and have a really simple solution but your explanation of how it's done is not at all that straightforward

No problem, it is just a software driver for the beep event, which is emitted once the system gets several key events at the same time it receives key events. :)

Power, too?

Does this disable the beep that comes when you unplug the power cable, too? If not, do you know how to do so? I find it an annoying and pointless sound.

Thanks

I've made the change mentioned above and it seems I don't get the keyboard related beeps anymore.

Puppet: there's a tick-box in power manager which says "beep when power state changes"
try that
