Clean install of WinXP and keep the hidden partition funct.

Hi guys,
I would like to clean install Windows XP on my new T60 however I am interested in keeping the hidden partition intact and preserving the thinkvantage button functionality to boot into rescue partition during boot time for access to extra tools.
Are there any workarounds for this, since a clean install of windows xp will overwrite the bootsector and most likely disable the hidden partition.
Also are there any specific issues to address during installation of WinXP w/ SP2 slipstreamed, since T60 contains SATA drives.
Thanks
p.s. sorry if it is a repost of old topic. I searched but did not get any meaningful posts with anwswers to my probs
