Should I accept this replacement unit from IBM/Lenovo?

At the end of October, I send in my 6 month old T43 to EasyServ to fix the high pitch noise that came from the USB port.
Long story short, I kept finding new problems created by EasyServ everytime I received my unit back.
Problems such as installed wrong type of heatsink/fan, replaced the planar card but didn't change Mac Address Label & update UUID,
send machine back in to replace the stickers only had EasyServ somehow fried the planaar card and end up with a refurblished used motherboard & keyboard.
Of course, after these many trips to the depot (5 times!), my T43 doesn't look mint anymore. It looks old and beat up.

After filing a formal complain against the depot service, IBM now decide to offer me the following system as replacement.
It's pretty much a close match to my T43, other than the cpu upgrade from Pentium M to Core Duo, X300 64MB to X1400 128MB, and WWAN

Product: ThinkPad T60 2007-67U

Original description: T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless,
WWAN, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Do you guys think I should accept this replacement unit? Or can I ask them to find a system with similar spec but with Core 2 Duo T7200 instead of Core Duo?
I really have no use for the WWAN, so it would have been perfect if they offered me a machine with Core 2 Duo T7200 and w/o WWAN..

I'd probably take it. But I would ask for what you want first.

That's a generous offer, even though you've been through a lot. I'd push them for a bit more, but if they don't budge, take it.

I don't understand. You sent a functioning machine in just to replace stickers?
And they are offering you a free machine which is a significant upgrade to what you purchased? And you are wondering whether you should accept this gift or not?

The "gift" they're offering may not make up for lost productivity for the user. I would take it in a second though..

So the question Lenovo is posing to you is - Justthinking " Deal " or " No Deal " ? At this point I would say " No Deal " and run it past them the idea of a core2duo model given that the christmas generousity may be in the decision maker. If they say " No Deal " to you then I would take their offer without reservations. Look at it this way. If you had your laptop in current condition on a desk and there was the one Lenovo was offering also there, which one would you want to take home? In the end it is much better than what you have right now.

I guess you have to pay shipment for the replacement, at least one trip.
Sad to hear another horrible story about EasyServ.

I really think we should report their bad practices to BBB.

I'd look through the tabook and find a machine more to your liking to counter-offer with...maybe do a little research to find one that is similarly priced to what they've offered you.

Yeah, after the 4th trip to the depot, my T43 came back w/ a mismatching mac address label and damaged winxp COA.
EasyServ wouldn't send me those stickers for me to replace myself, the said the only way to have those stickers replaced is to send it in.
When I called to check the status after they have my system for 3 days, I was told that the have to replace the planar card again.
They wouldn't go to detail about why I need another planar card replacement consider they just installed a new one on the privous trip.
From what I can gather, it seems that the technician accidentally fried the board, at that point, I totally lost my faith, so I filed a formal complian.
I just don't know what else they did to my T43 especially inside where I can not inspect.
To make thing worse, the system came back this monday, they replaced the mac address label alright, but with address from the planar card that was fried at depot.
After they replace the planar card, they didn't bother to replace the sticker again.

I think I will go ahead and accept IBM's offer.
This T60 they are offering me has everything I want and more.
The only draw back is the Core Duo processor, but I guess I can always replace it with a Core 2 Duo at a later day.

Since I don't think I will be upgrading to Vista anytime soon, Core Duo running WinXP should be more than enough.
It will probably take Vista at least a full year if not longer to be rid of the bugs and have all the support just like WinXP was released.

You can upgrade the core duo or core 2 duo by yourself. Go ahead and accept IBM\'s offer. Do not allow this wonderful opportunity to slip past.

;-)

NS (Boon Hui) recommends you to accept the T60 from IBM.
