Touchpad and fingerprint scanner not working!

So, yesterday I noticed that the touchpad on my ThinkPad T60 (2623D6U) had stopped working...not only that, the fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to be active either!
I really have no idea why this happened; I didn't change anything significant that I can remember. I looked in the BIOS and the setting for the trackpad is still set to "automatic". I tried disabling it and re-enabling it, but no luck. If I try the ThinkPad configuration utility, the touchpad button is grayed out...
I tried reinstalling the UltraNav drivers and wizard, but that also didn't help. Furthermore, I can't get into the UltraNav configuration since it says that my touch pad is disabled from the BIOS (which it doesn't seem to be...). For some reason the sensitivity on my TrackPoint has gone way down and I can't adjust it without going into the configuration!
Does anyone have ANY idea what might be going wrong here or how I might go about fixing it?
Thanks!
Nick

If you are good with a screwdriver, you might try removing the palmrest, and making sure the cables are still seated. I am trying to think back, and I am not sure if the touchpad and fingerprint go through the same cable or not. Might be worth a try though.

On the T60-2623-D6U the Fingerprint, and touchpad both use the same cable to connect to the Motherboard.

Good, I wasn't on crack then. Check out the cable and make sure its still seated. Check out the hardware manual for instructions on how to pop that thing off

I have seen a couple of similar threads where reseating the cable was all that was needed.

Sounds like a pretty good candidate for what's causing the problem...I'll investigate and let you know the results!

Hello,
Sorry for bringing up an old post, but I have been trying to fix a somewhat similar issue to the one in this thread.
I have a T60 2008 66M, which is working perfectly, except that the Trackpoint and the Touchpad are not working at all. The keyboard works fine, as does an external USB mouse.
I have tried to download and install the UltraNav drivers off the Lenovo website, but after installing them, still no joy. Are the UltraNav drivers the correct drivers for the Touchpad and Trackpoint? I can't see any other more relevant drivers for my model.
I have tried upgrading the BIOS and double checking that the Trackpoint and Touchpad are set to "automatic" in the BIOS rather than "disabled".
Does Win XP Pro SP2 have any inbuilt drivers for the Touchpad and Trackpoint? Or does it usually need the UltraNav software to recognise these devices?

There are builtin drivers, BUT I remember one time pulling in the drivers off windows update completely killed the trackpoint and touchpad on my T60. Go through the add/remove software area and find anything that deals with the synaptics stuff, and then download the software directly from Synaptics.com.
You may have to select viewing the windows updates, and then going through one by one to find the culprit. I eventually got mine working again, but I dont know exactly what I did.

The UltraNav drivers you downloaded from Lenovo should be the correct ones. After you download the driver package, you double-click on it to extract the files to your hard drive, then you go to the directory the UltraNav drivers are located in and run Setup.exe. Some people do not realize that you need to run Setup.exe to install the drivers (alternatively, instead of running Setup.exe, you can run Software Installer to install the drivers after extracting them to your hard drive).
Additionally, a handful of ThinkPad users (of various models) have discovered that their Touch Pad/TrackPoint ribbon cable connector has become unplugged from the motherboard. You might check that if nothing else seems to work.

Thanks for the replies.
The process I went through was to download the drivers, extract them to the C drive, I then did work out that there was a setup.exe and ran that.
However, I still have no trackpoint/touchpad action. I looked in the device manager and there are a few devices that apparently do not have a driver installed for them. One is a network device, which I think is the wireless, another is a PCI device, not sure what that is, maybe the modem or audio? But there are also two unknown devices that I was thinking may be the touchpad and trackpoint... But these devices are still unknown even after install of the UltraNav software.
I also tried downloading some of the Thinkpad utilities, there was one called something like UltraNav Wizard, and after installing this, if I try to run it, it tells me that the touchpad is disabled in the BIOS, even though I have double checked that it is not. Has anyone had this happen? I opened up the front panel and re-seated the cable for the touchpad, but still no luck. I have yet to try taking off the keyboard to re-seat whatever plug is is that the trackpoint uses.

Hello,
Well I'm back again! With the same problem as before! My Trackpoint and Touchpad are still not working, though I have a little more insight into the problem.
So I've tried a full re-install of Windows XP Pro and I tried to install the Synaptics driver to see what would happen and the driver installs (it is visible in the add/remove programs dialog) but aside from this, you would not know that it was installed, there is nothing in the task bar to indicate that it is installed (I understand that there should be an icon in the taskbar once the Synaptic driver is installed) and the Trackpoint/Touchpad still do not work. I then uninstalled it.
I notice that during its install process, the Synaptics driver software says that your pointing device needs to already be recognised by Windows before you install the Synaptics driver... I assume in my case, this would mean that even without the Synaptics driver, the Trackpoint should be recognised by Windows as a PS/2 pointing device(?).
But this is not the case, Windows recognises absolutely no pointing devices unless I have an external USB mouse plugging in at time.
So I'm wondering if any of you Thinkpad gurus may have some idea as to why Windows would not be picking up any pointing devices at all? As I'm thinking that maybe if I could get it to at least recognise that there is a PS/2 pointing device there, I could then install the Synaptic driver successfully.
