Fan is turn off at BIOS 2.05?

#1 Post by ronan_zj » Sat Dec 09, 2006 3:13 pm

I just use TP fan control to check out my GPU temp(65 C), and I notice that the Fan Speed is OFF (not turning). Is this normal to all T60 users? my BIOS 2.05.
So I decide to manually control the fan speed, I set up fan speed to Level 1(2980RPM, I can hear the sound from vent), After 2 mins, GPU temp is 57C. Should I have to keep Fan runing all the time? or just let BIOS control it( If let bios control it, the GPU temp will around 65C with Fan speed status off)?

Have you noticed when the fan does turn ON? It may have to do with the Embedded Controller of your laptop, it controls the fan values. Check the version of the EC and update it with the newest version on Lenovo's site.

Is your GPU a discrete chip or integrated GMA950 ?
GPU temps on a T60 always are high, but it's considered normal as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, Fan does turn on maybe every 5 mins.
my BIOS is 2.05, also EC is the latest one.
my Graphic card is X1400, if I dont use TP fan control, normal temp is around 65 C. CPU is at low temp around 45.
IF I use fan control and set at level 1, Fan rpm is 2990, GPU at 54C and CPU at 35C. ( 10 degrees difference.)
And I also checked my T42, If I don't use it at all, Fan is turn off also.

I dont even see Bios 2.5 on IBM's site. I still see 2.03. Where is 2.5 and what are the changes?

This temperature is very good! Maybe it´s because of the new BIOS? 57°C sounds fine!

57 C is under 2990 rpm fan speed.
when Fan is turn off, temp will be 65 C.
I am still thinking if I should go to local serivce center to change the thermal pad of my fan.

Hehe 57°C is very fine. I don´t know anyone, who has this low temperature at about 3000rpm!
I don´t this is a issue for the service center...
