Recsure & Recover failure after intsallation of IE 7

#1 Post by ice70 » Mon Dec 11, 2006 4:22 am

Hi there

I got my shiney new T60p about 2 months ago, and have loved the built in R&R (v 3.01.0037.00), which backs up the laptop to an external USB drive every friday night.

I can view previous backups, but my scheduled back up and manual backups fails when the progress bar screen pops up.

Error:
Faulting application rrgui.exe, version 3.0.27.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 7.0.5730.11, fault address 0x0009ed44.

Since the last successful back up, IE 7 has been installed and Openoffice. Open office broke my MS office install, so that was removed and reinstalled. I have XP pro SP2 with all the latest updates.

I have also found that the help center keyword search and the links on that pop up do not work.

Any ideas how to fix this? (i would love to remove IE7, but I need to use it to test sites in)

Thank you for your help

I don't know if this is any help, but I searched my hard drive for mshtml.dll. I found two copies of it, but they are different versions. The one that is the version you are getting the error on is in C:\WINDOWS\system32\. The other one is in C:\WINDOWS\ie7\. There is also a file named mshtml.dll.mui in C:\WINDOWS\system32\en-US\. I have IE7 installed, but I do not use Rescue and Recovery.

To sum up, here are the files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshtml.dll version 7.0.5730.11
C:\WINDOWS\ie7\mshtml.dll version 6.0.2900.2963
C:\WINDOWS\system32\en-US\mshtml.dll.mui version 7.0.5730.11

Looking further, it appears that C:\WINDOWS\ie7\ is the uninstall directory for Internet Explorer 7. It has the IE6 files in it.

You could try and remove IE7 then see if R&R will make a backup. Then try reinstalling IE7 from Microsoft.com and see if the R&R backup will work. This should tell you if IE7 is really breaking R&R or not.

Hi there

uninstalled IE7 and ran the rescue & recovery fine, reinstalled IE7 by downloading it from the MS site and tried to run rescue & recovery and got the same failure when the progress bar appeared.

Also, the help files reappeared when I uninstalled IE 7 but this time they reamined when I reinstalled IE7

thank you

Just wanted to add into the mix that I went through the IE7 upgrade twice on my C100 laptop, and didnt have any issues with Rescue and Recovery breaking.

I will find out what happens with my new t60 if it ever gets out of customs
