I got my T60p and re-imaged the machine using the hidden partition tools, I chose custom restore and unselected every application on there. It worked great BUT, I have a few questions and concerns.

1. I notice a lot of processes running that begin with "tvt", does anyone know what they are? I count 4 of them.

2. I also noticed that on the network adapters there are items installed. The wireless has something called intermediate driver and some security protocol. The wired ethernet has the security protocol as well.

3. The security chip, what is the whole deal with this? Do I need to enable it to use the fingerprint scanner? When I disabled it and restored the software simulated the chip when it didn't find it.

My main concern is that I don't want all these extra software installed. I want to run a lean configuration with just drivers, not applications. I don't care for the extra security and fingerprint scanner if they need to have all these applications and processes running to work.

I appreciate any insight into these findings.

hes talking about all the running processes: those are thinkvantage apps. Theres are also a lot (I count 7) apps begginning with tp, these are also thinkpad system stuff.

Yes, you can have the chip disabled and still use the fingerprint reader (I do right now). I disabled it because the status checking at startup was annoying . The only feature I remotely miss that requires the chip is the feature of css that allows fingerprint login for websites.
