Hi everyone--sorry for all the questions---

My new T60 is currently running almost 500 mb and is running 88 processes in the background. Is this normal? The dell i'm coming from ran about 300 mb and 61 processes in the background. Thanks

Yes, Thinkpads run lots of stuff in the background...you can get rid of lots of it if you really want to, but it's all good stuff so I kept it. I just put a second 1gb stick of ram in my computer and now all is well.

88 seems like quite a bit... 60ish should be normal

Hmm...have you done anything to eliminate processes or did yours come running about 60?

Had the same problem when i first received my T60 but after a clean XP install all went away.

The *number* of processes is irrelevant (unless you are trying to save memory for the pure sake of saving it). Set your machine up so as to run smoothly and properly, use Task Manager to make sure CPU runs at less that 2 percent most of the time, and enjoy.

My Thinkpad started out at 80+ processes as well. The day after I got it, I whiped it clean with a new XP install. Right now I have 45 processes 720 MB occupied. But then again, that is with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Azureus, and Folding@Home running at the same time. :D
