Should I return T60p's DVD drive? Won't make good DL burns.

Long story short: The LG GSA-4083N dual layer burner in my T60p does not seem to be able to burn a dual layer DVD-R or +R that is playable on my standalone Panasonic DVD-RP62 player. I'm wondering if you folks would help me decide if the issue should be addressed by warrantee service.

Details:
My burning software is Nero 6.3.1.25, but I've also burned with DVD Decrytper. Single layer DVD movies from the burner play fine in my standalone DVD player. However, dual layer movies consistently will not load. When the tray on the Panasonic closes, the player just whirs and whirs trying to load. The same discs play fine in the my T60p.

Here's the paradox: When I connect the T60p to an external burner (NEC ND-3550A), using the same NERO software with the same settings, and the same media, the resulting DL DVD plays just fine in my standalone player.

So, it's definitely a problem with the Thinkpad's internal burner, right? Should I attempt to update the firmware or driver? Should I get IBM/Lenovo service involved?

It is possible, I suppose, that the burner will only work well with the "best" media (presumably Verbatim DL, which I cannot recall trying), but I have used many Ridata and some Fuji discs to no avail. I have a number of movies on Ridata DL DVD+R's that play fine in my standalone player, but not one of them was burned on the Thinkpad's internal LG burner. They all came out of my NEC external.

Opinions? Many thanks!

*Bump* and more information:

Same results using REALLY good media (Verbatim).

So the question is: Should I return it, or accept that it's DL performance is dismal (in my experience)? Can I return the burner alone?

You can return the burner alone, just call up Lenovo first and explain the problem to them. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
