Really weird freezing and USB issues with new T60.
Really weird freezing and USB issues with new T60.
Just got this thing a 2 weeks ago and I've been having issues with it ever since. Every few minutes everything freezes for a second. My USB keyboard and mouse blink for a second because the lose power or connectivity. I was using the a mini dock which I thought was the problem but now I am using a port replicator and have the same issues. Overall, this thing is not as fast as my other laptop, R60, with the first generation Core Duo and a slower CPU. I tried 3 different BIOS versions, now on 2.07, and same thing happens. I did add memory to it (Micron 1GB) but the other day I removed it and same thing happens. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I obviously don't know what the problem is (not having a T60 yet nor seeing what is going on with your system) but, I'd try to exclude software/bloatware as the cause.oleg106 wrote:Just got this thing a 2 weeks ago and I've been having issues with it ever since. If you haven't already done so, open taskmanager (control-alt-delete will open this) and look at the programs and processes that are running. Pay particular attention to resource hogs when the machine is not actively doing anything; you can look at the cpu utilization under processes to find this. If you haven't removed the bloatware, you will probably see a lot of processes running. Try disabling them individually and see if the problems go away.
There are a lot of software processes that can essentially freeze a system for a few seconds, such mundane things as putting an optical disk into a CD/DVD drive, for example. When these things happen the system doesn't accept other inputs except maybe into a buffer.
Since the bios changes didn't do anything and since you don't report any other obvious hardware problems, I'd try to exclude software as an obvious and easily overlooked cause. If it is the software, then consider uninstalling the apps that cause this; you probably don't need them anyway.

oleg, stop pulling your hair out, you'll only go bald. The laptop is only 2 weeks old and it's given you trouble from day one. Try doing a full system recovery with only the memory you received with it installed. If the problem still exists then chances are good it's a hardware problem. Contact Lenovo support and request they give you a new T60. On a laptop that new I don't think you should have to go the repair route.

Don't have the away mgr installed, but I disabled the poller and it seems to have gotten better, unless I am hallucinating. Is this a well known issue? I am thinking to return the laptop and get the same thing with GMA950, X1400 runs too hot and isn't all that great. Also, no Linux/BSD compatibility.GomJabbar wrote:If you have ATI graphics, try stopping and disabling the ATI Hotkey Poller service and see if that makes any difference. I would follow the advice to disable the ATI poller to see if it corrects it. It has been at the roots of several seeming system malfunctions (oops looks like you've already gone there. If that's sussed it congratulations).
Does this connectus interuptus occur with all types of USB devices. Have you tried a USB flash drive, a card reader, an iPod etc to see if the issue persists when doing something like a large file copy or sync?
In something completely unrelated (I think) I was getting a blip of a system stall (break) and wireless disconnection every 5 minutes on the nose as MS Wireless Zero Config tried to access my wireless card being controlled by Access Connections.
Don't know if it's running on your system, but if you're on a WLAN and using AC disable MS WZC and see if it helps.
Good luck.

I BELIEVE you can fix this buy disable power management under USB Settings under Device Manager.
I didn't do this yet. So please let me know how it works !
This is not a dock issue. I wish I tested this before I got rid of the dock and got a replicator. This happens even if I plug the keyboard/mouse directly into the laptop. This isn't WLAN related either as I have the wireless card disabled most of the time. This is very annoying, especially when this happens when I play games. Not sure how to disable power management for USB, where did you see that?

Go to Device manger,
Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers",
Right click USB Root Hub, go to properties,
Click "Power Management", uncheck " Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power",
If you know which USB Root Hub your kb/ms are using, just change that. Otherwise, apply to all USB Root Hub

I did that, didn't change a thing.arthurcorell wrote:Go to Device manger,

I am experiencing a similar issue with my USB ports 'resetting' themselves while I work.
Lenovo T60 ( 2623-D6U ) docked in a Port Replicator (type 2505).
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 display adapter.
Windows Vista Ultimate.
When my laptop is docked and I have an external monitor set up as a secondary display then I can make the USB bus "reset" itself by dragging a window quickly around on the screen. Within 10 seconds the USB bus will "reset", causing the mouse to stop moving and the numlock on my external USB keyboard to flash.
This is quite irritating as this problem tends to manifest itself when I drag a window from one display to the other..
Note that this problem only happens when I use an external monitor as a secondary display. If I turn off the secondary display then the problem goes away.
Below are some of the troubleshooting steps that I have tried:
* Doesn't matter if the dock is plugged into the A/C adapter
* It doesn't matter which USB ports I use (the ones on the Port Replicator vs the ports on the laptop itself).
* Even if the keyboard/mouse are the only things plugged into the USB ports, I still see this problem.
* No external USB hubs are being used.
* Tried a different USB mouse.
* Tried a different keyboard.
* I moved my keyboard to the PS/2 connector on the dock. While this does prevent the keyboard light from flashing when the USB ports 'reset', it didn't solve the problem.
* I tried different versions of the ATI video card driver (latest from Lenovo vs the latest from Windows Update).
* I have tried a different Port Replicator.
* I reformatted/reinstalled Vista onto my laptop earlier this week with no luck.
* I updated my BIOS to version 2.16 as well with no luck.
* I installed all the little 'registry' hacks that Lenovo's System Update recommends.

Anyone solved this problem?
I have exactly the same problem with T60 + Advanced Mini Dock 2504. The problem is reproducible in the easiest way by viewing any Flash-containing webpage with Firefox. But it happens in a number of other situations, too. More here:
