active protection system

My T60 active protection system suddenly doesn't appear to do anything. Initially, it worked as expected, and I was pleasantly surprised how sensitive it was.
Recently, I noticed that it wasn't as sentitive as before, and AAMOF, I can't seem to get it to do anything.
The settings are set to the lowest sensitivity (I assume it will still work if the laptop actually took a heavy shock), and I can set it to maximun, but it doesn't appear to stay at that setting. When I go right back into the setting, it's back at the lowest setting.
I can't find anything in the BIOS to change APS, or any way to test it.
I'm kind of stumped, and an update of the machine to latest code levels didn't fix it. I think it happened after a Windows update, but I'm not sure.
Anybody have a similar issue or have any ideas???

Is the account that you are log into your machine with an Administrator account?
Do you have Adaptively ignore frequent repetitive shocks enabled?

No, the repetitive setting is not on, and I'm the system admin.
The only issue that is strange (and the APS worked initially) is that that the OS is setup (from the 'factory') with no administartor defined, but I'm in the administrators group.
I was trying to add programs to the auto startup list, and found NO directory structure for my login. I even created the structure, and it didn't autostart the programs. I did see the structure for the adminintrator, and when I put the shortcuts for the SW I wanted to autostart there, it worked......................strange.
I think the issue is related to that installed structure for users that has my login, but no administrator, and an OS update performed later. I've NO IDEA how to 'fix' it...................
Does this make any sense? Can anyone check their T60 for a similar configuration?

If I understand what your asking, a simple test would be does the APS icon appear in your taskbar on the lower right side after a restart? If it does then the program and drivers are being loaded at startup. The folder structure is not the problem

Is it in the Startup process list? You can check either through msconfig or through the Admin Control>Services option.

No, the icon doesn't appear...............
MSCONFIG doesn't seem to do anything from a command window, it can't find it....I'm running XP Pro if that makes any difference...
I go to my computer to manage to services, and I don't see anything remotely related to APS......any idea as to what the service name should be???

TpShocks is the process you should be looking for and 'msconfig' is best typed into the "Run..." dialog under the Start Menu to bring up the service and loading system for Windows XP Professional.

It should be called "TpShocks.exe"

In Control Panel you should find a ThinkVantage Active Protection icon. Launch this and you should see on the first tab, (configuration) an option to Show active protection icon on the system try. If this is checked and also the Enable Active Protection System is checked and the icon is not showing it strongly suggest that their is a problem with the installation.

TPshocks.exe is not running, but is in the startup list.
I tried starting it manually, but it doesn't appear to do anything.
Is there a log I can look for that will tell me why it's not starting?

You might check the control panel as mentioned, or you might download and reinstall APS to see if that fixes the problem:

I updated the APS software, and that didn't work.
I uninstalled APS, and reloaded, and that didn't work.
I then updated the APS again, and that worked.
AH!!! The wonders of modern electronics.................
Thanks for the help.
