Choosing a password, fingerprints, related thoughts

I'm going through initial setup with my new T60 and asked to choose an administrator password. How often am I going to have to use this? I have the fingerprint reader. Will using that bypass having to input a password? Will using the fingerprint reader obviate the necessity for having an administrator password? Can I change or eliminate a password at a later time? What would happen if I forget the password?

I saw a post saying you could be screwed if you couldn't use the fingerprint reader ( if, say, something happened to your fingers). What happens if you sell the laptop? Certainly, that's a possibility and you'd want to have the new owner be able to register new fingerprint(s).

Thanks for any clarifications.

Within the context of your questions, the answer is that you must have an Administrator password for Windows in order to use the fingerprint reader in place of that password, i.e., the fingerprint submits the password on your behalf so that you don't have to type it. The fingerprint does not have anything to submit if you have not set up a password.

Do NOT forget the password since there is no way to retrieve it.

All passwords and/or fingerprint registrations can be deleted and/or redone IF one has full access to the machine in administrative mode.
