How bad are the ultrabay batteries exactly?
After only 10 cycles, my ultrabay battery is down to 22.71 Wh from 29.1. I ran a search and saw may people saying that ultrabay batteries were pretty bad, but really this bad?
What are my options with this? I've only had it for a few weeks, is mine defective? Can I get a replacement?

They aren't bad per se, just that most tend to start declining in capacity pretty quickly simply because of how they are used.

Call Lenovo and request a replacement. Reason: not holding a charge.syborg1211 wrote:After only 10 cycles, my ultrabay battery is down to 22.71 Wh from 29.1. I ran a search and saw may people saying that ultrabay batteries were pretty bad, but really this bad?

I think it depends on their inventory. When you call them ask them how long. They may not ask for the old battery back but I think they will send you the replacement without getting the old bat first.syborg1211 wrote:How's lenovo at rma's? Am I going to have to wait a month for the replacement like I did for the original?
Can't hurt to ask them.

So I made a warranty claim around 5pm yesterday, and they told me that there were only 3 left so they can't guarantee it'll get to me, and if it did ship out it wouldn't get to me until tuesday. Today (Saturday), I get a knock on the door and to my surprise it's a lenovo shipment. They first classed me a new battery. So awesome!

I find whenever a battery does not seem to be preforming as it should it is worthwhile to take a look at the power saving scheme you are running.
I thought a battery that came with my factory refurbished T23 I bought about a year ago was gone already. I hardly used it on battery power. I was down to 15 minutes per charge.
I pressed F8 on startup, picked the safe mode command prompt and just walked away and let the battery run down and shut off. I then recharged it. Each time I did this, the charge took significantly longer and the T23 ran longer. By four cycles of this, I had a battery that operated my notebook for over 2 hours a charge. Oh, I also went into "Power Options" in Control Panel, to "Alarms" & changed Low Battery Alarm & Critical Battery Alarm to 3% & 2%
These li-ion cells may not have a memory chip but these li-ion power packs do generate what techs call "digital memory effect" Apparantly, you bypass this by freeing the battery from the notebook power saving utility for a few cycles or more.
