Please recommand a good cardbus wifi card
With MiMo (to be used with Zyxel P-336M), small size and power efficient.
The reason is that the internal Intel card is not working well with the Nortel ipsec client (frequent disconnect).

Re: Please recommand a good cardbus wifi card
I currently have a Zyxel x550 router and a dlink AirPlus DWL-G650 pccard which work excellently together. I got the Zyxel to replace a problematic Dlink DI-624 router. The mimo method in my old dlink router was Super G which is supported by my new Zyxel and your Zyxel router. The dlink pccard performs great with the Zyxel router in Super G mode. I have a very fast provider and I typically get 13000+ kbps in internet downlink performance tests with the current setup which is as fast as my wired desktop pc connection. I use Nortel VPN (ipsec) with no problems for access to work. I can't tell you how power efficient the card is but reception is great, far superior to the built in intel card. I manage my connections with the latest AC and have no problems and can even connect to 2 different access points simultaneously using both the dlink and the intel wireless cards(they use different chipsets). I use wpa for security. This card also works as well in my x23 which is what I originally got it for. One word of caution. Dont use the dlink utility that comes with pccard to manage your connections, don't even load it, it wastes memory and causes bsods.bigbear2007 wrote:With MiMo (to be used with Zyxel P-336M), small size and power efficient.

This pccard has been around for quite some time and I would be interested in hearing other experiences using newer pccard cards

A Cisco AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 is without question the best cardbus card out there. I have two, and they pull in signals that "normal" cards or even internal cards cannot get. It has 100mW transmit power which I think is higher than anything readily available (and legal) out there.
Newegg sells them

But, you can also get them on eBay for between $50-100, but you need to download software from the cisco website (free). I also have 2 for sale that I haven't put up on ebay, and would sell one if you are interested. PM me for details.
Good luck,
NeoMatrix

It certainly is one of the most expensive and does not support mimo of any type. For speed, any mimo card on a fast internet connection will blow it away. For reception it probably is the best.NeoMatrix wrote:A Cisco AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 is without question the best cardbus card out there. IMO, it is grossly overpriced for a card that only supports a,b, & g.

If he wants to use the SuperG mode supported by his router he will need an external pccard. If he doesn't have a really fast internet connection > 6000kbps then it doesn't matter what card he uses. In that case an internal thinkpad card would be a good and economical choice.own6volvos wrote:Why not replace the card inside your laptop, with one of the Thinkpad A/B/G or A/B/G/N cards that are atheros based (much better)? Simple to install as well.

Normally I use the dlink card, however, based on your question I am trying the intel 3845abg with the Nortel vpn ipsec client. So far no problem. I suspect that the the issue is not compatibility with nortel, just the generally lousy connectivity most people experience with this card. Since my t60 is very close to my router I get a near 100% signal all the time and suspect because of this close proximity will have no problems. I will stay connected with the Nortel client for the next hour and let you know.bigbear2007 wrote:A side question is if any1 has problem with intel card & nortel ipsec client ?
My old dell with 11B intel card also has the same disconnect problem. I solved it by not using the internal card but instead the USB zyxel G200 v2 wireless client.

No problems encountered using the Nortel ipsec client with the Intel 3845. Maybe it's your router. Some cards and protocols seem to work better with some routers. Could also be a nearby access point using the same channel your router is using, try a different channel. Sounds strange but try pointing the antenna of your router down to limit reception. This works sometimes in instances where a nearby router or device with a close frequency is interfering with your router. Many 2.5gh cordless phones will interfere.

Have you tuned your internet settings with TCP Optimizer?
If not I strongly recommend it. Works magic on internet performance and could resolve your problem.

The frequent cyclical disconnection of the Intel WiFi card is often caused by the Wireless Zero Configuration Service in Windows. Disable it if you are using Access Connections & Intel Utilities to manage your wireless connections.
This was causing most of my Nortel IPSec Client disconnection problems. Disabling the WZC and selecting a less populated wireless channel has solved the problems for me.
With WZC enabled I had the same problem with the Atheros(IBM) card that I had temporarily swapped out for a test.
Hope this helps.

I dont think it is the problem as I can see the wireless icon periodically gets no signal without using the Nortel IPSec.Scratch wrote:The frequent cyclical disconnection of the Intel WiFi card is often caused by the Wireless Zero Configuration Service in Windows. Is there a way to disable this WZC if I'm not using AC?Scratch wrote:The frequent cyclical disconnection of the Intel WiFi card is often caused by the Wireless Zero Configuration Service in Windows.
